Get Vendio Gallery – Now FREE! Huge 1940’s 17″ by 13″ Santa face made from paper mache pulp blown into a mold, and hand painted. Has flocked Santa hat with cotton trim; beard is spun glass and quite itchy! The head is unmarked and hang to hang on the wall. This gorgeous Santa is made from the same type of paper mache as egg cartons, and some candy containers! This type of paper mache became popular in the 1930’s, and fell out of popularity after the 1950’s, when plastic became the defacto standard. The features are hand painted, and the beard is really thick, curled spun glass – the old, itchy kind. The hat is flocked on the red part, and has cotton trim. It is a charming piece, unmarked as to who made it. I have stored it in an acid free cellophane bag, to prevent deterioration. The piece has overall wear – and great “patina” – the aged look that things get over time. The flocking and cotton trim are very slightly worn, and the paint has some slight wear. There is some very slight overall soil. It displays really well, and has a hook on the back so it can hang from the wall. Payments required within four days, please.
